Overview

Damien Hirst was born in Bristol in 1965, and raised in Leeds, northern England. He studied in Leeds College of Art, 1983-85; Goldsmith, University of London, 1986-89. He is constantly obfuscating the boundaries between art and science in his artistic explorations of the notions life and death. The artist has a wide range of practice spanning from paintings and drawings to installations and sculptures.  Hirst was nominated for the DAAD International Artists Programme, Berlin in 1994, and was awarded the Turner Prize in 1995. Damien Hirst lives and work in Gloucestershire, UK. He is a notable member of the YBAs (Young British Artists) Group which revitalized the commercial and curatorial British art scene in the 1990s.
