Yayoi Kusama is a painter, sculptor, installation artist, filmmaker and performer best known for her use of polka dots, 'infinity nets', and iconic imagery such as pumpkins. Kusama studied at the Kyoto School of Arts and Crafts and moved to New York in the late 1950s where she was associated with the Pop and Minimalist art movements.
Kusama represented Japan at the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993 and has exhibited in many prestigious institutions including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Tate Modern, London; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
