Overview

In 1928, having received a degree in electronic engineering, Fausto Melotti enrolled at the Accademia di Belle Arte di Brera in Milan. His first exhibition was held at Galleria del Milione in Milan in 1935 and he went on to exhibit extensively throughout the world. During his lifetime he received many awards including the Swiss Premio La Sarraz (1938); Grand Prize of the IX Triennale di Milan (1951); Rembrandt Prize of the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Foundation, Basel (1974); and 15th Premio Europeo Umberto Biancamano (1977). On the year of his death the 42nd Venice Biennale commemorated Melotti with the Golden Lion. His works are present in the collections of leading museums including the Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna, Bologna; Museo Civico di Arte Contemporanea, Milan; Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid; and Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York.
