Rob and Nick Carter’s most recent work takes Botticelli’s Birth of Venus (1484) and Andy Warhol’s transcription (1984) as its starting point. Due to their continued fascination with the Old Masters, Rob and Nick Carter have executed 15 unique paintings of Botticelli’s Venus in contrasting colours; like Warhol, Rob and Nick have chosen to focus on her face and flowing hair. Each individual painting accentuates her hair colour against a sharp, contrasting background in order to magnify her divinity and beauty, employing the artists’ iconic spectrum of colours and signature pop style. The Carters have redefined a classical art work with a ground-breaking use of the robot. Employing lights out manufacturing and the artists’ fascination with cutting edge technology this work is untouched by human hand from blank canvas to finished painting.

“Venus, the Roman goddess of love is transformed through vibrant colours, bestowing upon her a celebrity status. Transforming this classical art piece using a six axis robot arm which is accurate within a tenth of a millimetre the accuracy is astonishing. Why would we not want to use a robot which is accurate to within a tenth of a millimetre?”
