Twinings (1978) is a silkscreen print by Alighiero Boetti, produced in a limited edition of 100 and signed in pencil by the artist. Commissioned by a Bologna firm for the London-based Twinings tea brand, the work exemplifies Boetti’s fascination with language, identity, and duality. Playing on the “twin” embedded in the brand’s name, Boetti layers in a self-referential nod to his own conceptual doubling – most explicitly through the phrase Shaman / Showman, a recurring motif in his practice that captures the dual role of the artist as both mystic and performer. Twinings reflects Boetti’s conceptual rigour, linguistic playfulness, and philosophical engagement, turning a commercial commission into a sharply intelligent meditation on duplication and self-image.
