Düsseldorf - His light installations in the most extraordinary places on our planet made him world famous: Heinz Mack (89), sculptor, painter and co-founder of the influential ZERO group.

On the occasion of his 90th birthday on March 8, the big Mack exhibition with 100 works was to be opened on Thursday in the Düsseldorf Art Palace. The great hope is that the show, which is initially planned to run until the end of May, will not only be digitally experienced due to Corona, but that the doors will also be opened analogously.

The world artist on BILD: "The exhibition and its digital opening mean a lot to me. Less because it was planned because of my big birthday. Rather because, especially in difficult times, art and culture must remain visible to people. "

He also wants to visit the exhibition himself! The 89-year-old: "Even though, since I have not yet been vaccinated, I can only do this with great caution."

According to a museum spokeswoman, the show was initially planned in analog form, and a digital solution would have to be developed accordingly.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Kunstpalast has enormously expanded its online offering. For example, people interested in art were given a digital 360-degree tour of the last exhibition "Outrage! Art in Times of Anger ".

The Mack show is dedicated to his early work from the 1950s to 1970s, showing innovations and the revolutionary spirit with which Mack opened up new spaces of thought beyond academic standards.
