Flora Industrialis

Vik Muniz exhibition at Museo Universidad de Navarra announced

The exhibition runs from 18th October 2023 - March 2024

Inspired by the engravings and drawings of the 19th century Latin American flora albums of the Museo Universidad de Navarra Collection, the exhibition shows the artist's project, the result of his participation in the Museum's artist-in-residence program. Tender Puentes residency program.

Since the Enlightenment, the restless explorers took with them sketchers and scientists who patiently and carefully recorded the findings of each voyage. The result of these expeditions were the sketchbooks and volumes of expeditions and treasures of the late 17th century. These pieces, which the visitor can contemplate in the exhibition A Promised Land, from the Age of Enlightenment to the Birth of PhotographyThese pieces, which the visitor can contemplate in the exhibition A Promised Land, from the Age of Enlightenment to the birth of photography, serve the artist as inspiration for the creation of a new flora, a "Flora Industrialis" that questions our approach to reality in a world of technology and various representations.

Following his work process and constant innovation in the use of diverse materials as artistic material, Muniz turns a handful of cotton flowers into a delicate botanical catalog of his invention captured in beautifully crafted photographs.

An unexpected journey through a vegetable universe born of his own creativity.
